Land Rights Under Siege, Local Leader Calls Out Government Negligence in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District, Andhra Pradesh, 28 February 2025: In a distressing turn of events, Mr. Krishna Chaitanya Reddy, a local landowner and National Joint Coordinator of the All India Kisan Congress, has raised serious concerns regarding the alarming negligence exhibited by the R.D.O. and the District Collector in responding to ongoing land encroachment issues affecting his property in Ramachandrapuram, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District. Despite accumulating evidence and repeated appeals for the protection of his land rights, the local government authorities have turned a blind eye. Mr. Reddy's 0.18 acres of land (Account Number 1765, Survey Number 278-5D)—transformed into non-agricultural land with all requisite dues paid in July 2017—is now threatened by an encroachment attempt from Vaitla Ramakrishna, a neighboring landowner, who seeks to unlawfully occupy 0.05 acres of Mr. Reddy's land. Mr. Reddy has formally lodged complaints with the Tahsildar’s office, and R.D.O. Sindhu Subrahmanyam had even dispatched surveyors to verify the claims. Despite a written report confirming the encroachment by Vaitla Shiva Pawan Kumar, no action has been taken by the authorities to address this violation. “Is the government truly committed to safeguarding the land rights of its citizens, or are they merely paying lip service to these issues, while ordinary citizens like myself languish in distress?” Mr. Reddy questioned, expressing his frustration over the lack of decisive action. The current situation raises critical concerns about the security of land ownership, especially when properties belonging to influential individuals face threat from encroachment. If the government fails to protect the land rights of prominent citizens, what hope do ordinary people have? While previous administrations have acknowledged these pressing issues, it is disheartening to see a continuation of negligence under the current government. In a proclaimed effort to resolve farmers' issues, the authorities must take immediate and effective steps to protect land rights and prevent further encroachments on private property. Mr. Reddy's repeated calls for justice have remained unanswered, signaling a troubling lack of responsiveness from high-ranking officials. We urge the government to: Take swift and effective action to resolve the ongoing land encroachment crisis. Reinstate its commitment to safeguarding the land rights of all citizens, irrespective of socio-economic status. Implement robust measures to prevent future encroachments and restore public trust in administrative bodies. The R.D.O. and District Collector must prioritize the restoration of citizens’ land rights and deliver a fair resolution to this pressing dispute.
