Qala Sanskriti Launches Hand-Painted Saree Collection by Transgender Artists and 150 Artisans to Empower Communities

Mumbai, 11 June 2025 — A powerful new initiative is weaving art and social impact into one meaningful fabric. Qala Sanskriti, created by Sanskriti Arts, has launched a special collection of hand-painted sarees made by transgender artists and over 150 artisans from across India. This is not just about fashion. It is about dignity, creativity, and giving a voice to communities that are often left unseen. Sarees That Tell a Story Every saree in the Qala Sanskriti collection is carefully hand-painted. The designs are inspired by Indian folklore, nature, and the real-life experiences of the artists. Each piece reflects identity, strength, and culture. These are not factory-made items but individual works of art filled with emotion and purpose. According to Tejasvani Prabhakar, co-curator of the collection and a well-known LGBTQ+ rights advocate, “Our transgender artists have put their soul into these creations. This is not a handout. This is recognition and respect. They deserve to be seen for their talent and spirit.” A Launch That Supports Lives The event is not only a celebration of art, but also a fundraiser with two clear goals. First, to provide sustainable jobs and training for transgender artists and artisans, allowing them to earn fairly and grow their skills. Second, to distribute menstrual hygiene kits to girls in rural India, helping them stay healthy, confident, and continue their education without interruption. Sundeep Prabhakar, founder of Sanskriti Arts, shared, “Many of our artists have lived through pain and rejection. Now they are creating something that uplifts others. This project is about turning pain into purpose and giving back with heart.” How You Can Be Part of the Change There are simple ways to support this movement. You can buy a saree and directly support a transgender artist while wearing a meaningful piece of handmade art. You can sponsor a menstrual hygiene kit for just ₹300 and support a girl for six months. You can also spread the word by sharing the campaign on social media and using hashtags that raise awareness.
