Union Ministers Come Together for Indian Wool as Dr. Chaudhuri's Book “Wool: From Sheep to Sustainability” Launches at IIC, 25 August 2026.

New Delhi, 24th August 2026 — A new book examining the science, craft and future of wool — with particular focus on India's own wool sector — will be released at the India International Centre, New Delhi, on Tuesday evening.

Wool: From Sheep to Sustainability, written by Dr. Sailen Kumar Chaudhuri and published by Woodhead Publishing India in Textiles, will be launched at MP Hall, India International Centre, 40 Max Mueller Marg, Lodhi Estate, at 6:00 PM on 25th August 2026.

The release will be graced by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon. Union Minister of Textiles; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism; Shri Jaiveer Singh, Hon. Minister of Culture and Tourism, Uttar Pradesh; and Mr. James Waugh, Counsellor (Primary Industries), New Zealand High Commission to India.

The book traces wool across its entire journey — from the animal that grows it to the garment that reaches the consumer. It covers the structure and properties of the fibre, the processes that convert fleece into fabric, and the environmental case for wool as a renewable and biodegradable natural fibre. A substantial portion of the work is devoted to the Indian wool industry: its breeds, its regional clusters, the position of the shepherd within the value chain, and the reasons why a country with one of the world's largest sheep populations remains a modest presence in the global wool trade.

Dr. Chaudhuri brings several decades of association with the textile field to the subject. He is a former Vice Chairman (Global) of The Textile Institute, headquartered in Manchester, and formerly Chairman of its India National Office. He has also served as Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee for Textile Skill Development.

The evening is being organised by the Pyramid Spiritual Science Academy, Brahma Kumaris and the R.S. Foundation, and forms part of a larger programme that includes the curtain raiser for The Pyramid ShivShakti Dhyan Mandir in Prabhu Upwan, the release of Upanishad Madhuri by Acharya Jagmohan Verma (Vedanti), a cultural performance, and the felicitation of individuals recognised for their contribution to community service.

Members of the press are invited to attend.
